Symposium on Academic Integrity SAI’24 UAE : A Resounding Success in Advancing AI and Educational Innovation

[DUBAI, 4 MAY 2024] – The ENAI WG Centre for Academic Integrity in the UAE (ECAIU) in collaboration with University of Wollongong in Dubai recently organised a symposium on Academic Integrity SAI’24 UAE at Zayed University as a vibrant showcase of pioneering ideas in artificial intelligence, academic integrity, and educational innovation. With an impressive 70% acceptance rate, the event featured outstanding and compelling papers presented by academics and practitioners from various K-12 schools and higher education institutions in the UAE.

Hosted in partnership with Zayed University’s Centre for Educational Innovation, under the leadership of Prof. Christina Gitsaki, the symposium's unique format facilitated vibrant discussions among educators, researchers, and practitioners, leaving attendees and presenters bursting with ideas for future collaborations.

This year's symposium, powered by Studiosity and co-chaired by Prof. Chris Hill, founding Vice President of ECAIU and technical chair of SAI’24, was structured to enhance interaction and deepen discussions on AI in education in the context of academic integrity. "The half-day format of the symposium, featuring 10-minute lightning talks followed by panel discussions, was designed to stimulate more intense debate and foster networking," said Prof. Hill. "This setup not only allowed for more comprehensive engagement with the content but also opened up new avenues for future collaborations."

The event was highlighted by an insightful keynote from Dr. Tracy Scholl, Commissioner at CAA Ministry of Education UAE, and a standout presentation by Rida Akram, a PG student at University of Birmingham Dubai, on the "Impact of AI on Secondary Science Students' Higher-Order and Critical Thinking Skills," which earned her the Best Presentation Award. Her research exemplified the innovative spirit that the symposium aimed to cultivate.

"The SAI'24 UAE Symposium has not only highlighted the significant impact of AI on education but also fostered collaborations that will propel this field forward," said Dr Zeenath Reza Khan, founding President of ECAIU and chair of SAI’24. "We are immensely proud of what we have achieved and are inspired by the enthusiasm and innovation showcased by all participants."

The student organizing team played a crucial role in the seamless execution of the event, ensuring that each session allowed for engaging discussions and the free exchange of ideas.

ECAIU and partners extend their thanks to all participants, speakers, and contributors for making the SAI'24 UAE Symposium a significant milestone in educational discussions on AI. The insights and collaborations fostered during this event are expected to influence future educational strategies and initiatives globally.
